§6601. Purpose

The purpose of this subchapter is to provide grants to State educational agencies and subgrants to local educational agencies to— (1) increase student achievement consistent with the challenging State academic standards; (2) improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders; (3) increase the number of teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and (4) provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders.

Another prior section 6601, Pub. L. 89–10, title II, §2001, as added Pub. L. 103–382, title I, §101, Oct. 20, 1994, 108 Stat. 3612, set forth findings, prior to the general amendment of this subchapter by Pub. L. 107–110. A prior section 2001 of Pub. L. 89–10 was classified to section 2981 of this title, prior to the general amendment of Pub. L. 89–10 by Pub. L. 103–382.
