What happens if a civil penalty is not paid on time?

§ 49.570 What happens if a civil penalty is not paid on time? (a) If the civil penalty is not paid by the required deadlines, the United States may take action to collect the penalty assessed plus interest, attorneys' fees, and collection costs. (b) Failure to pay a civil penalty assessed under this subpart is a debt to the United States. (c) Failure to pay a civil penalty assessed under this subpart may prevent a person from obtaining a future authorization for activities related to paleontological resources on Federal land as well as receiving other future Federal funding or assistance. (d) By assessing a civil penalty under this subpart, the United States does not waive the right to pursue other legal or administrative remedies.
