25 C.F.R. § 162.021 — What are BIA's responsibilities in approving leases?

§ 162.021 What are BIA's responsibilities in approving leases? (a) We will work to provide assistance to Indian landowners in leasing their land, either through negotiations or advertisement. (b) We will promote tribal control and self-determination over tribal land and other land under the tribe's jurisdiction, including through contracts and self-governance compacts entered into under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, as amended, 25 U.S.C. 450f et. seq. (c) We will promptly respond to requests for BIA approval of leases, as specified in §§ 162.340, 162.440, 162.530, and 162.565. (d) We will work to ensure that the use of the land is consistent with the Indian landowners' wishes and applicable tribal law.
