Idaho Code § 67-820 — Flags Flown At Half-Staff — Death In Line Of Duty For Police, Firefighters, Paramedics Or Emts.

TITLE 67 STATE GOVERNMENT AND STATE AFFAIRS CHAPTER 8 EXECUTIVE AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS — GOVERNOR AND LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR 67-820. Flags flown at half-staff — Death in line of duty for police, firefighters, paramedics or EMTs. (1) The governor, upon timely notification and verification of the death of a federal, state or local law enforcement officer, firefighter, paramedic or emergency medical technician who is employed or volunteering for an agency in the state of Idaho and who died in the line of duty, shall direct that the flag of the United States and the state flag be flown at half-staff, from the time of notification to the governor until the day following the memorial service, at the state capitol building and at other state and local government buildings. The flags shall be flown upon an existing flagstaff or flagstaffs or, at the option of the governor, a flagstaff or flagstaffs erected at an appropriate site, after consultation with organizations representing law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics or emergency medical technicians regarding the location and design of the flagstaff or flagstaffs. The flag flown over the capitol building in honor of the deceased shall be presented to the family. (2)  Except as prohibited by the United States flag code, the governor may direct that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff at a monument honoring fallen service members, which directive shall be effective for a period of one (1) year and may be renewed by the governor annually. The governor may request the time, manner and condition of such direction in keeping with the traditions of the United States flag code.
