Purpose

TITLE 67 STATE GOVERNMENT AND STATE AFFAIRS CHAPTER 74 IDAHO STATE LOTTERY 67-7401. Purpose. The purpose of this legislation is to establish a state lottery to generate revenue for the state with a director and a state lottery commission to oversee lottery operations. This chapter establishes a state lottery account for the deposit of receipts, for payment of prizes and expenses, and provides that revenues generated in the lottery account, after allowances for prizes and expenses, shall be distributed for the public benefit. This chapter provides for contracting with lottery retailers and authorizes the promulgation of administrative rules and regulations necessary for carrying out the intent of this chapter. The lottery commission and the director of the lottery shall be responsible for operating the lottery at the least public expense and the smallest staffing possible, commensurate with all other policies stated in this chapter. Additionally, all advertising by the lottery shall be conducted in a manner consonant with the dignity of the state and the sensibilities of its citizens.
