Ordinance Text
8-6-24: SIGN PERMIT:
A. Applicability: It is unlawful for any person to erect, or alter any sign as defined in this Title without first obtaining a sign permit. This does not require a permit for sign maintenance, altering permitted changeable copy, or signs exempted from a permit as described elsewhere in Section 8-3-12.
B. Initiation: Sign permit applications include one set of plans drawn to scale indicating the sign size, location, method of illumination, colors, materials of the sign and structure, method of attachment, and any permit fees. In addition, information relating to the placement, construction, and design shall be submitted to the Director, as needed to demonstrate compliance with Section 8-3-12.
C. Completeness: See Section 8-6-5.
D. Notice: Not applicable.
E. Decision: The Director will approve or deny the sign permit application within sixty (60) days following the date of its submission. If the Director fails to timely act on the application, the sign permit is deemed denied unless a request is submitted for continuance.
F. Required Findings: The Director shall approve the sign permit application pursuant to the regulations in Section 8-3-12.
G. Appeals: See Section 8-6-13.
H. Issuance: The Director will issue a permit for the erection, alteration, or relocation of a sign within the County when an application is properly made, and the sign complies with all appropriate laws and ordinances.
I. Scope Of Approval: A sign permit does not authorize the maintenance of an unlawful sign and does not constitute a defense in an action to abate an unlawful sign. The Ada County Building Code may require a building permit (see Section 7-2-3 of Ada County Code and the adopted building code).
